Celebrities move over to the Ivar

Three years ago, Brent Bolthouse Productions turned Wednesday nights at Las Palmas into a cultural event. Every week it was a who’s who of the celebrity circuit, and they managed to parlay the night’s success into three additional promotions: They took over Mondays at Joseph’s restaurant in Hollywood, Thursdays at the Lounge in WeHo and Saturdays at Hollywood’s A.D. club -- all of which are like maps to the stars and weekly fodder for the tabloids. The Ivar club recently wooed them to move their Wednesday night circus from Las Palmas to the larger Hollywood Boulevard space, and it’s been an instant hit. With double the capacity and spacious outdoor seating, Wednesdays at Ivar, now dubbed club Pharmacy, is the hottest joint in town for hip-hop-loving urbanites and celebrity squeezes.

Dancing under red lights

Meanwhile, across the street at Deep, our other favorite new Wednesday night promotion, Red Light, offers a sexy alternative to Ivar’s b-boy shenanigans. Host Nico Golfar reinvented the nightclub by transforming it into a red-light district, back-alley club. Red Light brings an adult crowd that hangs around for the late-night go-go dancing.

Karaoke night

Karaoke lovers unite! Cheap Chick, our favorite all-girl Cheap Trick cover band, is planning a night of fun-filled karaoke Friday at the Knitting Factory. We surrender.... And speaking of chicks that rock, Texas Terri, the Hollywood scene’s female Iggy Pop, plans to pillage the Garage in Silver Lake on Feb. 9.... The Smell celebrated its fifth anniversary over the weekend. Not bad for a downtown all-ages punk rock club.... Blest rocks! Not only is the Hollywood boutique the cutting edge in punk rock fashion -- think items with broken hearts and fang-bearing cobras -- it’s a musical nirvana. The rock ‘n’ roll clerks double as DJs, spinning everything from Roxy Music’s gorgeous first album to vintage Clash.... God save the queens! Tuesday’s Hollywood Athletic Club bash, which mashed all of H-town’s hottest dance clubs under one dome, tore the roof off with a glam rock finale by the legendary cross-dressing divas of Club Make-Up.

Masked ball

The Parlour Club in WeHo is still recovering from Tuesday’s Bricktops gala, a Roaring ‘20s masked ball. Bricktops returns to the club every Friday starting in January. In more Parlour news, the global pop club Cometa returns tonight, with music from Japan, France, Spain, Hong Kong and Mexico. Ole.... Another reason to love Liquid Kitty: The cool bar on the Westside didn’t charge a cover on New Year’s Eve.... The Hollywood Hills came alive with the sound of music, as Jane’s Addiction hosted a cosmic New Year’s Eve house party after its Wiltern performance.... And people are still talking about the Alliance’s annual holiday party, which took place in Glendale at the Moonlight Rollerway. Such hotshots as System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Weezer, Vince Vaughn, Ryan Star and Alyssa Milano cruised the night away.... The Viper Room is starting the new year right, with a hot show Friday night by Dredg, the heaviest band around.... Volleyball superstar Jeff Bellandi, who co-owns the Hermosa Beach Mexican eatery Los Muchachos with Chris Pike (Las Palmas/Sangria/Joya), is following in his partner’s footsteps. Bellandi recently opened Towne, a Manhattan Beach restaurant that’s so hot it’s booked weeks in advance. We also hear Bellandi’s taken over the Beach Club in Hermosa. Sounds tubular.
