Fairfax Easily Beats Mater Dei
Jamal Boykin finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Josh Shipp added 28 points to lead Los Angeles Fairfax to a 78-63 victory over Santa Ana Mater Dei in a semifinal game of the Houston Academy tournament Monday night.
The Lions (9-1), who opened a 12-point lead at halftime, forced 12 turnovers and committed just six.
Marcel Jones had 15 points and six rebounds; Taylor King had eight points and six rebounds for the Monarchs (11-1).
Compton Centennial 75, Taft 54 -- Aided by an aggressive man-to-man defense, Compton Centennial, No. 8 in The Times rankings, limited UCLA-bound guard Jordan Farmar to eight points on one-of-13 shooting to come away with a victory over sixth-ranked Woodland Hills Taft in a semifinal game of the Lynwood tournament.
Sophomore Jervaughn Johnson scored 17 points, and UCLA-bound guard Arron Afflalo added 13 points for Centennial (9-2), which will play in tonight’s final at 8:40. Maurice Walters scored 14 points for Taft (9-2).
