Tracking Students
Re “Charter Schools’ Promise,” editorial, April 23: The Academic Performance Index has at least one fatal flaw. The students tested this year are not the same students tested last year, and next year’s group will be another different group. The index measures my school on false data. What is missing is a tracking system that follows each individual student’s performance in the tests, tracks where he or she was being taught during the past semester(s) and then reports the results. If our society can do this simple task for almost every kind of business and other governmental entity, why not for the schools?
