Richard Van Pham Is a True Survivor
What an amazing survivor, this Richard Van Pham (“Boater Drifts 4 Months at Sea,” Sept. 25)! He must have put all the final winners in any of the TV “Survivor” shows to shame, both in the categories of ingenuity and perseverance. What is truly tragic and hidden in this story is that this man had lost everything he had worked so hard for because of his medical expenses. Certainly this great nation of ours should be able to find a way to provide a health-care safety net for all its citizens. On the bright side, this is truly an inspiring tale, given the daily media bombardment of war talk, tumbling stock values and corporate executive scandals.
