Airlines Keep Piling On Restrictions
Regarding “As Airlines Change Rules, Passengers Hold the Bag” (Travel Insider, Sept. 15): Once again the airlines are heaping more restrictions and use-it-or-lose-it rules onto travelers, and their pattern of poor service continues. The government approved a $15-billion package to keep the airlines flying, but their service keeps getting worse.
Government aid is sometimes necessary. But there should be a few strings attached, including an independent review of egregious restrictions like those announced recently.

With the new restrictions on ticketing, passengers are going to travel no matter how ill they are, rather than forfeit a costly ticket. Aircraft will become germ incubators, and more people will become sick after flying. I hope the public will patronize only consumer-friendly airlines.
