Boy, 6, Sees Dad Kill Mom, Self
As his young son looked on, a 27-year-old man fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend before killing himself Saturday morning during a court-ordered custody transfer in front of Santa Monica City Hall.
The attack occurred about 9:50 a.m. in front of the couple’s 6-year-old boy and a domestic violence counselor who was there to supervise the exchange.
The 21-year-old mother from Santa Clarita was stabbed several times in the upper body. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died. The father, a West Los Angeles resident, died at the scene from self-inflicted knife wounds.
Authorities are withholding their identities until their families are notified.
Santa Monica police officers, headquartered next to City Hall, immediately responded to the woman’s screams for help.
