Woman Charged With Hitting Child Gets Visit
From Times Wire Reports
A woman caught on a South Bend department store surveillance tape allegedly striking her 4-year-old daughter visited with the girl for about 95 minutes.
It was Madelyne Gorman Toogood’s first chance to see her daughter Martha since the girl was placed in foster care after Toogood was charged Saturday with battery of a child.
Some people outside a juvenile center recognized Toogood and began shouting. “Someone ought to beat you,” one woman yelled.
The Sept. 13 videotape has been shown repeatedly by television stations around the nation.
