City Council Endorses Measure B Tax Increase
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The City Council voted unanimously Friday to endorse county Measure B on the Nov. 5 ballot, a tax increase that would raise $168 million annually to maintain hospital emergency rooms and trauma centers.
The measure will allow the county to charge three cents per square foot per year on all improved properties in Los Angeles County. Councilwoman Janice Hahn said it is a small price to pay for emergency services.
“It’s clear the county’s health-care system is in dire need of financial assistance,” Hahn said.
