No One Should Applaud the Apathy of Voters

Re “Discouraged Voters Will Stay Away From the Polls,” Sept. 3:

Several letters to The Times commended voters who are voicing their complaints about flaws in our governmental system by no longer going to the polls. Most disturbing of these letters was from Anthony R. Fellow, a professor of media and politics at Cal State Fullerton. He writes, “Politicians need to give voters more credit for no longer going to the polls.”

Fellow gave a long list of grievances with our political system, but he applauds the most serious grievance that the democratic governments face: voter apathy.
