Washburn Time Frame Could Give Them Pause

The Anaheim Police Department should be prepared to stand up to a storm of criticism for releasing the investigation of Jarrod Washburn, without also acknowledging the major discrepancies in the case.

Moreover, one day after the police disclosed the investigation, the Orange County district attorney declined to file a sexual assault case against Washburn. If only the police had buttoned their lips a few days longer, they might have saved Washburn a wrenching personal experience.

I do not believe in jinxes or anything like that, but being a die-hard Angel fan for 24 of my 32 years, they are doing everything they can to change my mind.

First, there was the Gary DiSarcina injury that cost them an 11-game lead, and then Tony Phillips gets caught with cocaine, and now there is the Jarrod Washburn story. Is this the beginning of the end again?

I hope the Angels can erase all the jinx talk and get their fans one trip to the World Series, but then again, I have been saying that for 24 years now.

Jarrod Washburn, 28, is investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old, and one of his teammates says, “I can’t believe it’s true. But it would be terrible timing if it is.”

Not that it would be a terrible thing if true, merely terrible timing. If only Washburn had waited until the pennant race was over! Can somebody find a better name than Angels for these guys?

Hello critics!

There is magic in the kingdom, occurring on the diamond at Edison Field, and as fans, we can thank the Walt Disney Company for making it happen.

The Angels are bringing the best of hard-fought, competitive baseball to thousands, as we evidenced Thursday night, when the Angels claimed a share of first place in their division en route to postseason play. Michael Eisner and other Disney executives’ commitment to the Angels and our community continues to bring excitement and fun to us all. Thanks for continuing to bring magic to our kingdom.

As an Angel fan, it’s time to recognize one of our ingredients for success, and thankfully it’s something no longer in the Anaheim recipe. That would be Mo Vaughn, who, with a .254 average for the last-place New York Mets, likely does not even his bat his weight.

How does that taste, Met fans?
