It’s Not the Soda, It’s Lack of Exercise
We know that there is something wrong in the world when a teenager can’t enjoy a soda during lunch (“Schools to End Soda Sales,” Aug. 28). As a high school student I know firsthand how many students are overweight, but it isn’t because they have been consuming too much sugar; it’s because they are lazy and don’t get enough exercise.
No matter how healthy a diet is, a person can’t be healthy without an appropriate amount of exercise. Instead of keeping students from having a soda, these people should be trying to get students more involved in physical activity, encouraging sports and offering discounts at gyms.
Students will find a way to get their sugar and caffeine fix elsewhere, and I am 100% sure that overweight students will not suddenly become lean, athletic and perfect examples of fitness. They will just hate school a little bit more.
I’m just relieved my school is in La Habra, where it seems common sense is a bit more common.
