Police Defuse Bomb, Break Up Basque Protest
Police in Bilbao defused a car bomb planted by Basque separatists, and San Sebastian police fired rubber bullets to disperse a protest by supporters of a Basque party that Spain wants to ban.
Police said the bomb was in a van stolen by three hooded assailants who said they acted for the guerrilla group ETA.
Spanish police have been shutting down the offices and property of the Batasuna party since a judge ruled it forms part of the armed Basque separatist movement.
Police said officers fired rubber bullets after some protesters threw Molotov cocktails and bottles in San Sebastian.
