Another big fine for Sotheby’s
Sotheby’s auction house, which already has been fined $45 million for price fixing in the United States, has been assessed $20.2 million more by the European Union on similar charges, the BBC reports.
Rival Christie’s also was implicated in the scandal but escaped a fine because it “was the first to provide crucial evidence,” the commission said. The firms were accused of inflating commission fees during the 1990s and defrauding art sellers of $400 million.
