Gunman Fatally Shot After Wounding Deputy
A man grabbed a deputy’s gun in the lobby of a Montgomery County courthouse in Dayton and shot and wounded an officer, officials said. Two other deputies shot the gunman, who died at a local hospital.
Sheriff Dave Vore said the man grabbed and fired the gun after setting off a metal detector. The man then left the courthouse and was confronted outside by two other deputies, who shot him, Vore said.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the wounded deputy was the officer whose gun was grabbed. The deputy, who was hit in the calf, was treated at a hospital and released.
Vore said he didn’t know why the man had gone to the building, and authorities would not immediately identify the deputy or the gunman.
