City Sues State Over Group Home’s Location

The city of Elk Grove, near Sacramento, is suing the state of California, alleging the Department of Social Services violated state law by approving a group home for sex offenders within a mile of an elementary school.
Elk Grove residents say they were shocked when a group home for juvenile sex offenders, run by Mathiot Group Homes of Carmichael, moved into a residential neighborhood earlier this month. City officials say they were not warned that the home was moving into the neighborhood.
