UC Irvine Gets Grant to Study Cancer Treatment
From staff and wire reports
The National Cancer Institute has awarded UC Irvine $18 million in grants to study potentially groundbreaking treatments for colon and cervical cancer.
The colon cancer study at UCI’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center will test the effectiveness of two chemicals in preventing the disease in 400 people considered at risk. The cervical cancer trial will follow 130 women given an experimental vaccine that targets a virus linked to the most common form of the disease.
