Police searched Wednesday for two men who kidnapped a 60-year-old West Covina woman from her home at gunpoint and sped away with her.

The men, one of whom was identified as Miguel Angel Escalera of Sun Valley, drove into the driveway of Angelina Bejarano’s house on West Sherway Street at 8 p.m. Tuesday and knocked on the door. When she answered, they grabbed her and hustled her into a dark-colored SUV, police said. Police declined to discuss the motive.

Bejarano’s 31-year-old daughter ran after the abductors, and one of them grabbed her. She broke free, and one fired a shot at her as she fled. She wasn’t hit.

A witness who didn’t want to be identified said the two women screamed one man’s name, asking him to stop. He said nothing.

Police traced a phone call from one of the kidnappers to a Sun Valley residence. There, they found a Mitsubishi Montero similar to the getaway vehicle but no trace of Bejarano.

Police said Escalera is 29, about 5 feet 7 and 250 pounds, with letters tattooed on his chest. They said they had no information on the second man.
