A Camarillo couple were killed Sunday and their 11-year-old son was seriously injured when the family’s car ran a red light and was struck by a pickup truck, authorities said.

Driver Sergio Acosta Roque, 52, and his wife, Silvia Gonzalez Acosta, 47, who was in the back seat and not wearing a seat belt, died instantly, said CHP spokesman Jorge Ortiz. Erick Acosta Gonzalez, who was in the front passenger seat, was in serious but stable condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

The collision occurred about 11:15 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Road and 5th Street in an unincorporated area. Witnesses said Richard Fortesque, 23, of Oxnard swerved his pickup, trying to avoid the car. Fortesque was not seriously injured, police said.
