Update--Washburn will start on three days’ rest for the second time this season; he pitched eight shutout innings at Oakland on three days’ rest last month. He started the first game of this series and received no decision, pitching seven innings and giving up four runs, all on home runs--solo shots by Derek Jeter and Rondell White and a two-run homer by Jason Giambi. Wells, starting for the first time in the series, is 4-0 with a 1.45 ERA in his past four starts. But he has a 7.15 ERA in day games this season, including an August game in Anaheim in which the Angels routed him for five runs in two innings. In 21 career games in Anaheim, he has a 6.89 ERA. He loves to face Benji Gil (.059) and Scott Spiezio (.118) and hates to face Garret Anderson (.382) and Troy Glaus (.333).
