Storr Appreciates Chance to Contribute

For the eighth time in less than three seasons, Jamie Storr started in goal for the Kings against the Mighty Ducks Friday at the Arrowhead Pond. Although he gave up a game-tying goal in the third period, Storr played well, with 23 saves in his fourth start of the season.

“I felt very strong and thought that I gave a good effort,” said Storr, who started only 12 games last season. “A lot of the things that I’ve been working on in practice, I was able to use. It feels good to be a part of the team and help [the Kings] get points, especially when you’re not one of the main guys on the team.

“All I can do is keep working hard and do the best with what I’m being dealt. That’s the only way that I can look at it. But I know that there’s not too much room for error.”

Storr said facing the Ducks this season is different than it has been in recent years because of the addition of forwards such as Petr Sykora and Adam Oates along with rookie Stanislav Chistov.

“The Ducks of old are forgotten,” Storr said. “They have a lot of great players on their team. They can match up very well with any team.... You have to give them a lot of credit.”

Duck defenseman Fredrik Olausson returned from NHL exile Friday.

Olausson was a healthy scratch the last five games as he worked to get back into shape. He returned to the lineup when defenseman Ruslan Salei went out with back spasms.

“I felt pretty strong,” said Olausson, 37. “We’ll see. We’ll see. I think I have accomplished some things.”

Duck forward Mike Leclerc, who had knee surgery Nov. 19, has begun skating on his own. He is expected to be out two to three more weeks.

King forward Steve Heinze, recalled from Manchester of the American Hockey League on Thursday, recorded an assist on a third-period goal and hit the post on a breakaway in the second. It was a strong first game for Heinze, 32, who reportedly has been on the trading block since training camp.
