A memorial on display through Dec. 12 at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles honors the World Trade Center victims. The mixed-media installation was created by volunteers, including two who worked at the site and, during breaks, used a point-and-shoot camera to capture the scene around them in panoramic photographs.

The exhibit depicts the devastation at the site and the efforts of rescue workers in the days immediately after the Sept. 11, 2001, attack. Titled “September 12th,” the memorial was designed by Bill Keokosky and constructed in collaboration with Jim Audley and the assistance of 25 Amtrak workers.

Philadelphia-area building contractors donated materials that depict the destruction illustrated in the photographs.

Sponsored by Amtrak, the sculpture will be installed in the rail system’s stations in 12 cities over the coming months.

Its final home will be a public place, but the location is still to be determined.
