Carson junior quarterback Beau Davis has quit the team on the week of the Colts’ first-round City Section playoff game against L.A. Jefferson.

Coach John Aguirre confirmed that Davis decided to leave the team on Monday after a meeting between the two.

Davis had been sharing duties with sophomore Boneigh Napoleon. Napoleon threw five touchdown passes and Davis one in last week’s 61-22 victory over Wilmington Banning.

Bob Messina, the principal at Canyon Country Canyon, says there is no evidence supporting accusations of illegal recruiting by the school’s cross-country coaches.

Messina and Vice Principal Bill Bolde began an investigation after Messina received a letter on Nov. 5 accusing Canyon’s coaches and parents of some team members of recruiting middle-school runners from outside the school’s attendance area.

The letter was signed by cross-country and track coaches from Newhall Hart, Saugus and Valencia, the other three schools in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Dave DeLong, a Canyon co-coach, denied the allegations from the start and Messina echoed those sentiments.

“I know that our coaching staff is on the up and up,” Messina said. “We checked out the accusations and found that they were based on false information.”
