‘Grounded’ finds new life on the WB
Facing the prospect of being grounded by Fox, “Grounded for Life” has found a second life on the WB network.
The comedy series, starring Donal Logue and Megyn Price as parents who wed as teens, will shift from Fox to the WB, which probably will pair the show with “Reba” on Fridays starting in March.
Fox has preempted the show since September but will bring it back for a brief run next month. Sources say the network decided it didn’t need “Grounded” long term, given that its time slot -- between “That ‘70s Show” and “24” on Tuesdays -- could be filled by the second edition of “American Idol” early next year.
The WB will have six original episodes of the series, which made its debut on Fox in January 2001, plus access to reruns.
There is considerable precedent for such network-hopping -- especially to the WB and UPN. “Sister, Sister” and “The Hughleys” each made that leap from ABC, respectively, and the WB also picked up Fox’s “The PJ’s.” “JAG” became a solid hit for CBS, meanwhile, after being dropped by NBC.
