Warner Is Ready to Throw

Kurt Warner starts throwing today, confident he’ll have to sit out only one more game because of a broken pinkie.

The St. Louis Rams’ quarterback, who won his second most-valuable-player award last season, also agrees with his coach that he deserves his job back whenever he’s healthy.

Backup Marc Bulger has led the Rams to three victories; Warner was 0-4 before getting hurt.

“Marc’s played tremendous, no question about it,” Warner said Wednesday. “But I feel I’ve earned the right to call this my team and when I’m healthy I’m going to be back in there.”

Warner could be back for the Nov. 18 game against the Chicago Bears.

Bulger will start at home against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

Coach Mike Martz quashed a potential quarterback controversy for the second time in three days.

“I’ve just never been part of the amnesia crowd, I guess,” Martz said.

“How in the world could you turn your back on a guy that’s done so much? I don’t understand that, I don’t deal with it very well.”

Indianapolis Colt running backs Edgerrin James and Ricky Williams will sit out for the second consecutive game Sunday.

James had been playing on a surgically repaired left knee before partially tearing his right hamstring. Coach Tony Dungy said James also has rib cartilage damage. Williams has a hamstring injury.

Minnesota receiver Derrick Alexander is out for the season because of a torn ligament in his left knee.

Alexander was injured during the Vikings’ 38-24 loss at Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Zach Wiegert was put on injured reserve by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have lost both starting offensive tackles in the span of three weeks. Wiegert had surgery on his left knee Wednesday.... Kansas City linebacker Lew Bush was suspended for four games after testing positive for a banned substance. The Chiefs said the action was taken after a routine test by the league, which ordered the suspension because of a violation of “anabolic steroid and substance policy.”
