Intel Unveils Faster Server Computer Chip
From Bloomberg News
Intel Corp. started selling a new microprocessor for server computers that’s 38% faster than older models, as the world’s biggest chip maker tries to boost sales by selling more expensive chips.
The new Xeon MP chip runs at 2 gigahertz, the company said. The semiconductor is used in servers with four or more processors. Intel’s previous top performer in that category ran at 1.6 GHz. The new Xeon costs $3,692 each in 1,000-unit shipments.
Shares of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel rose 47 cents to $18.77 on Nasdaq.
