Mah Puts Sylmar in the City Final
The Sylmar High baseball team had little trouble beating San Fernando for a fourth time this season as ace right-hander Jamie Mah (7-0) pitched a six-hitter in the Spartans’ 7-1 City Championship semifinal victory Thursday afternoon at Lake Balboa Birmingham High. That earned Sylmar its first trip to Dodger Stadium since losing to Chatsworth in 1983.
“We came out mentally prepared to play and I don’t think it would’ve mattered who we were up against,” said Mah, who struck out six and allowed two walks in his fifth complete game of the season.
Three errors led to five runs in the bottom of the third inning for top-seeded Sylmar (27-4).
Fausto Reyes doubled in John Sandoval for the Tigers’ run. No. 12 San Fernando (16-14-1) lost to Sylmar by 4-2, 2-0 and 6-1 scores in Valley Mission League play.
