Two Derby Winners in Town Policy
Two recent Derby winners top the field in the $25,000 Town Policy Handicap tonight at Los Alamitos.
Among the 10 3-year-olds scheduled to go 350 yards are Mini Rock, who won the La Primera Derby, and Harley Man, who won the El Primero Del Ano at 49-1 for trainer Adan Farias.
Owned by Jay and Polly Parsons and trained by Blane Schvaneveldt, Mini Rock has won four of her last seven and was second in two of her defeats. She will break from Post 7 and will be ridden by Joe Badilla Jr.
Claimed for $12,500 on Sept. 27, Harley Man has won two of his last three. Among those behind him in his upset victory in the El Primero Del Ano were Dont Dink With Me, the runner-up in last year’s Kindergarten Futurity, and Check Him Out, a Grade I winner.
The field for the Town Policy also includes Tiny Rocket Dash, who has won eight of 10 for owner-trainer Roberto Dominguez. The Oregon-bred had an eight-race winning streak ended when he was second at 1-2 odds in the Old Habits on May 11.
The picks: 1. Forever Jan. 2. Sweet Mama Gene. 3. Frolic’s Flash. 4. Justa Dance. 5. Bobbin Lee. 6. Lucky Red Hot. 7. Jake Blues. 8. Ponderosa Ruby. 9. Mini Rock. 10. Jessies Mighty Bug.
