Family of 3 Is Found Slain
A man apparently shot his wife and daughter to death and then took his own life at the family’s apartment in Highland Park, police said Thursday.
None of the dead was identified by officials pending notification of relatives. According to neighbors, the man, who was believed to have worked as a security guard, had often appeared troubled.
Police said the bodies were found Thursday afternoon by a city building inspector who was checking apartments in the modest, two-story complex in the 100 block of Avenue 55.
Detectives said a preliminary examination of the victims indicated that they died Wednesday.
Neighbors said the 11-year-old girl was a student at nearby Monte Vista Street Elementary School.
They added that the family kept to itself.
Hernan Salazar, 13, who lives in the building, described the girl as quiet and said he saw her around the building frequently.
