Solicitors Aren’t Linked to City’s Fire Department
Fire officials Thursday cautioned citizens to beware of telephone solicitors fraudulently seeking donations on behalf of the Fullerton Fire Department.
“We’ve had several calls this week,” said Sylvia Palmer Mudrick, a spokeswoman for the city.
“What they do is claim to be representing the department or an organization like the Foundation for Disabled Firefighters, which doesn’t exist. People have received calls that were suspicious, and some decided to do the right thing--check it out with the Fire Department first.”
The Fullerton Fire Department does not authorize outside agencies to collect funds on its behalf, Mudrick said. Anyone receiving a suspicious call should report it to police, she said.
