Larry Pollack and Tom Dillon, who cheesed up the Sunset Strip with a mechanical bull (Sunset Chop House) and shouting sushi chefs (Miyagi’s), have added Rome to their list of campy playhouses. They had artist Natalie Gray reproduce Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel masterpiece on the restaurant’s dome ceiling....

The Parlour Club on Santa Monica Boulevard is off the hook. I popped in last week and was blown away by Mount Sims, a DJ-dance-fashion-art collective that’s ready for off-Broadway. DJ Mount Sims, who is totally wired in to his laptop, got the party started with “techno sexual” beats and dancers, who were (barely) adorned in Ryan Heffington’s punk-rock designs. Everyone’s talking about Ghoul School, the new Wednesday-night death rock scene at Spike, the gay bar next door to the Parlour. But I spent last Wednesday at Twine at the Alterknit Lounge. I got to get jiggy with DJ Meredith Chinn, who was spinning “bastard pop” bootlegs, and was amazed by multimedia man DJ Joshua Gabriel, who played bongos and scratched the turntables while his own experimental film, with insanely cool hand-drawn images, was projected on the screen.
