League Rivals Play in City Semifinals
San Fernando High was 0-3 against Sylmar in Valley Mission League baseball play this season. Chatsworth was 0-3 against Reseda Cleveland in West Valley League play. Today, those teams will meet again, with trips to Dodger Stadium at stake.
San Fernando (16-13-1), seeded No. 12, will take on top-seeded Sylmar (26-4) at Van Nuys Birmingham in one City Championship baseball semifinal. Sixth-seeded Chatsworth (25-5) will play No. 15 Cleveland (19-11) in the other semifinal at Pierce College.
The San Fernando Valley is guaranteed its 29th City champion in the last 30 seasons.
Chatsworth has defeated Cleveland once this season in a tournament game and likely will start the winning pitcher from that game, sophomore Jason Dominguez, against the Cavaliers.
San Fernando has junior Bobby Esparza ready to go against Sylmar ace Jamie Mah. The winners will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.
