Shuttle Flight to Feature an International Cast
FLORIDA
*
The scheduled liftoff at Cape Canaveral today of space shuttle Endeavour will be a distinctly international affair, with Americans, Russians, a Costa Rican and a Frenchman cooperating on a mission that will include “wrist surgery” on a Canadian-made robot arm.
The shuttle will also ferry hardware representing most of the partner nations to the International Space Station.
NASA set the launch for 7:44 p.m., but said thunderstorms, typical for Florida at this time of year, could postpone the mission.
The seven-member crew’s primary objective is to leave behind three of its number for a 4-1/2 month stay on the space station.
