* Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said its first-quarter net income rose to $8.86 million, or 15 cents a share, from $5.72 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 26% to $111.1 million.
* Prandium Inc., which operates Chi-Chi’s, Koo Koo Roo and Hamburger Hamlet restaurants, said it will review an unsolicited bid from privately held Austin Grills Inc. But the Irvine-based company added that representatives for a majority of its debt holders have signaled opposition to the proposal and want to continue with Prandium’s pending bankruptcy reorganization plan.
* Ken Chandler is resigning as publisher of the New York Post after 29 years with News Corp. Lachlan Murdoch, son of News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch, will replace him.
