Focus on Mexico Folk Art at Vast San Diego Show
A comprehensive survey of Mexican folk art, with more than 600 pieces, opened last week at the San Diego Museum of Man.
The “Hecho en Mexico” show includes hand-carved animal and human figures, ceramics, copperware, toys, tourist items, textiles and masks. Many items, drawn from the museum’s extensive collection, have not been displayed since the 1960s, officials said. They are organized to represent each of Mexico’s 31 states and one federal district.
The museum, which is in Balboa Park, is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Admission is $6 adults, $5 for seniors 65 and older, $3 ages 6 to 17, free under 6. (619) 239-2001, www.museumofman.org. The exhibit runs through February.
