School Official Put on Leave in Underwear Flap
A high school administrator was placed on paid leave Wednesday as officials investigate complaints from parents that she checked to see if girls were wearing thong underwear to a dance.
Rita Wilson, assistant principal at Rancho Bernardo High since 1997, was placed on leave by Poway Unified School District Supt. Don Phillips. Wilson allegedly was checking to determine if girls had defied her ban on the skimpy underwear.
“If these allegations prove to be true, the actions [at the dance] were clearly outside our school district’s policies and procedures,” Phillips said.
The underwear checks allegedly occurred at a Friday costume party dance attended by 725 students.
