Etcheverry Scores in D.C. United Win

Marco Etcheverry scored his first MLS goal in 21 months, and Abdul Thompson Conteh added a goal as D.C. United won its home opener, 2-0, over the Chicago Fire on Saturday in front of 15,033 at Washington.
United captain Etcheverry curled a left-footed, 22-yard free kick neatly into the upper right hand corner of the net in the 39th minute for his first league goal since June 17, 2000. Etcheverry was the MLS MVP in 1998.

Colorado 1, San Jose 0--Mark Chung scored in the fourth minute for the Rapids (1-0-1) in front of 25,010 at Denver. San Jose, the defending MLS champion, outshot Colorado, 24-12.
