Burns Posts Win No. 21 in Late Model Series Race
Riverside’s Todd Burns needed 17 laps to jump into the lead and win the 50-lap Southern California Auto Club Late Model series feature race Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway before 4,498. It was Burns’ 21st career late model win.
“I got a good run off of [Turn] 4 and I wasn’t sure I could get Tim [Huddleston], but I tried it,” Burns said.
Burns pulled ahead of Agoura Hills’ Huddleston on Lap 17. Huddleston, who had taken the lead on Lap 7 from Kevin Wood, could not stay with Burns after Lap 25. Burns had as much as a three-second lead going into the final laps of the race, and won by 2.293 seconds over Huddleston. Wood, who led the first seven laps, finished third.
In the 50-lap Ultra Wheel Super Truck series feature, Chino’s Michael Brusco survived a spin out early in the race to win the regional series’ second race of the season, beating Joe Herold and Dan Moore.
In the 30-lap King Taco Legends series feature, 16 year-old Ricky Wildman of Yorba Linda won the first race of the season, holding off the defending series champion, Alta Loma’s Tom Landreth, and Fontana’s Bill Everett.
Terry Limberopoulos grabbed his second consecutive victory in the 35-lap Modified 4’s series feature, beating Guy Tripp and Greg Tucker.
