Woman Arrested After Driving Into Ocean
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after driving through a wall and into the ocean off Balboa Peninsula with her 5-year-old daughter in the car.
Sgt. Steve Shulman, a spokesman for the Newport Beach Police Department, said investigators suspect that Jessica Yarusinski, 36, had been drinking when the accident happened about 7 p.m. Thursday at the end of 20th Street.
“By the time officers got there, she was already out of the car and had made it back to shore with her child,” Shulman said. Neither was injured, he said.
The daughter was taken into protective custody.
The car--about 20 feet offshore in about 10 feet of water--was pulled out with a tow truck.
