A New York Point of View
I love seeing Eric Pape’s New York essays (“Letter From New York,” Feb. 17). He’s a terrific writer with great insight into regional cultures and common threads of experience. You should continue to bring his writing to the pages of The Times.

Pape notes that as a result of Sept. 11, “the city has been reduced to a village.” He points out that many of the villagers don’t feel as tough as they used to. Some have become tentative or even reclusive. But I think that Pape missed the most palpable effect of that horrific day: People are coming forward more often now to help their fellow man.
