Event Explores Mixed-Use Development in Urban L.A.

A wide range of real estate professionals will be able to explore the challenges and rewards of mixed-use development in urban Los Angeles during a one-day conference and exposition on March 27.

The Urban Marketplace 2002, sponsored by the Los Angeles branch of the Urban Land Institute, will feature case studies, round-table discussion groups, speaker panels and an exposition designed to promote mixed-use investment and development.

Last year, the event attracted an estimated 500 people ranging from real estate brokers and developers to city officials and neighborhood activists.

The program features case studies of four urban projects:

* The completed Adams West project in South-Central Los Angeles that includes 52 units of senior housing and 13,000-square-feet of retail space.

* The completed Pine Square project, which includes housing and a movie theater, in downtown Long Beach.

* The $37-million Hollywest project, which combines senior housing and 120,000-square-feet of retail space at the northeast corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue in Hollywood.

* The renovation of the Aliso Village public housing project in East Los Angeles into a mixed-use project that includes 400 units of rental and for-sale housing and 50,000-square-feet of retail space.

The advance registration fee for the Urban Marketplace, which will be held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, is $25.

Registration on the day of the event is $35.
