Sleeping Justice

John Balzar is right on the mark (“MIA: A War on Greed,” Commentary, March 10). What the thieves at Enron did to strangle the future welfare and security of so many Americans far surpasses those tragic events of Sept. 11. Where’s the outrage from the Bush administration and Congress over this nightmare?

Every day the civil liberties of Americans are being eroded by the communities where they live due to the continued search by local governments for more revenue. You can be pulled over at random to see if you have beer on your breath or to see if your child is seated in an approved car seat. And, in either case, be prepared to get your checkbook out.

However, let the charlatans who run major corporations cheat people out of billions of dollars and the Justice Department takes a nap.
