Woman Held in Theft, Other Suspect Sought
An Oxnard woman was arrested on suspicion of robbery Friday after she tried to leave a Ventura Kmart with stolen merchandise and her accomplice brandished a knife at security guards, authorities said.
Ventura police said Cynthia Maeyama, 31, left the Kmart on Victoria Avenue with merchandise she didn’t pay for.
When she was confronted by security guards, a struggle ensued, Ventura Police Lt. David Wilson said.
A male accomplice waiting in the parking lot wielded a knife at the guards and pulled Maeyama away from them, police said.
The pair jumped into a truck and drove off, police said. Ventura police, later joined by Oxnard officers, chased the truck until it stopped near the 500 block of South Ventura Road.
The man with the knife escaped but police arrested Maeyama.
No one was injured in the incident and the search for the man continues.
