Naval Base to Celebrate Seabees’ 60th Year
Seabee Days will be July 27-28 at Naval Base Ventura County in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Navy’s combat construction engineers.
The event will open with a full-dress military parade of more than 700 Seabees accompanied by the Navy Band Southwest.
During the two-day open house, visitors can see how the Naval Construction Battalion Center operates. There will be demonstrations of Seabee construction skills, weapons exhibits and displays.
Entertainment will include a carnival, puppet shows, jugglers, face painting, a motorcycle and classic car show, live music, food and craft vendors and sports. Because of tightened security after Sept. 11, all vehicles and people entering the Navy base are subject to searches. Visitors are prohibited from bringing glass containers, alcohol, weapons, pets, backpacks, skateboards or bicycles.
The free event will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Free parking will be available by entering the Patterson Road or Victoria Avenue gates, which open at 9 a.m.
