Operations at the Port of Long Beach resumed Saturday after a bomb scare the previous day.

The port, a major component of the largest harbor complex in the nation, shut down about 4:30 p.m. Friday, after a suspicious device was found inside a car. The sheriff’s bomb squad later determined that the device was harmless.

“It was some sort of rigged-up device to discourage any kind of thievery of this car,” said Fausto Capobianco, a port spokesman. “Everything is fine this morning.”
