Quarter Horses Will Rule Tonight
There is a sameness about the card tonight that begins a new week at Los Alamitos.
There are no races for Arabians or thoroughbreds and nothing around a turn. All eight contests are for quarter horses at either 300 or 350 yards, but there is the spice of a pick-six carryover of $21,026.
Perhaps the most interesting race is the third, a 300-yard dash for 2-year-old maidens.
The field of seven features three first-time starters from solid barns, including Secretary For Life, a chestnut daughter of Apollo.
Owned by the Vessels Stallion Farm and trained by Danny Cardoza, who won with eight of his first 22 starters at the meet, Secretary For Life worked in 12.50 seconds from the gate at Los Alamitos earlier in the month. She will leave from Post 5 and be ridden by Joe Badilla Jr.
The picks: 1. Especialy Red Hot. 2. Rock N Fastball. 3. Willie Awesome. 4. Amys Dash. 5. Oh Whata Beduino. 6. Takin The Fast Lane. 7. Talking Tactics. 8. Hugo Rules.
Four! Use She Is Classic, Especialy Red Hot and Miss Absolut in the first, single Rock N Fastball in the second, use Willie Awesome, Secretary For Life and Sharin The Cash in the third and Amys Dash, Indigo Dash and Breaking Up in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Cathedral adds Lasix in the fifth after a troubled trip in his bow May 17. Supposin I Fly steps up several levels in the sixth after scoring a 20-1 surprise April 26.
