Girl Shot by Police Is Charged With Felony
A 14-year-old girl shot three times last month after allegedly moving toward a Ventura police officer with a kitchen knife was charged Tuesday with a felony, a prosecutor said.
The girl was shot May 5 inside her Ventura foster home. The juvenile will be arraigned today on one count of assaulting a peace officer, Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Miles Weiss said.
After recovering, the girl, described by police as mentally troubled, was sent to Juvenile Hall. Weiss said his office wants to see the girl placed in a rehabilitation facility and not a juvenile jail.
