Honor and Remember
“Setting the Record Straight--After 60 Years” (June 2), on Yoshie Hagiya, 77, who was finally honored as valedictorian at Oxnard High School after a wait of 60 years, reminds me of Hitoshi Yonemura, the head cheerleader at UCLA (and a member of the student council) who was taken from the campus before he could graduate, joined the Army and was killed in action in Italy.
I have not seen a memorial to Yonemura at UCLA. It would be nice if a cheerleading award could be established in his name.
