Walkers Will Raise Funds to Battle AIDS
About 15,000 walkers are expected to join in the annual AIDS Walk Orange County beginning at 9 a.m. today at UC Irvine.
Last year, a similar number of walkers raised about $800,000, organizers said.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony at 9. Walkers can choose between a 5K and 10K route.
Several streets near the UCI campus, including sections of Campus Drive, will be closed for part of the morning.
AIDS Walk Orange County began in 1987, and has raised nearly $6 million for agencies that help AIDS patients with medical care, housing, transportation, legal services and other services.
At least eight Orange County AIDS support organizations benefit from the walk, organizers said.
