Cities to Hold ‘Night Out’ Crime-Fighting Events
Law enforcement officials and residents of Camarillo and Port Hueneme will get together to observe National Night Out, a 19-year-old crime-fighting event.
The goal of National Night Out, sponsored by the nonprofit National Assn. of Town Watch, is to strengthen community relations with law enforcement, generate support for anti-crime programs and heighten crime prevention awareness.
From 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, nearly 50 neighborhoods in Camarillo will hold block parties. Officers from several units--including K-9 patrols, detectives and SWAT teams--will travel the party circuit to meet with residents.
Many cities across the country will observe the event Aug. 6, including Port Hueneme, where activities will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in front of City Hall, 250 N. Ventura Road.
