School District, Water Agency to Share Site
In an unusual joint venture, a water district and school district are working together to buy a parcel to serve both their needs.
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified will get a middle school to help relieve overcrowding, and the Orange County Water District will get a percolation basin to add enough water for 20,000 households.
“This presents a tremendous opportunity for a partnership with benefits to both of our organizations,” said Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified Supt. Dennis Smith.
Jerry A. King, president of the Orange County Water District board, said the project “sets a standard that I hope all other public agencies will follow.”
The two agencies began working together after discovering that they were both looking at the same parcel in Placentia’s La Jolla area. Negotiators are finalizing an agreement to share the space.
